Man dies in early morning crash

A man died early Thursday morning, July 22, when he drove off a road in Solon Township and hit a tree.

According to the Kent County Sheriff Department, Ryan Thomas Oleneack, 34, of Howard City, was heading south on Algoma Avenue, south of Wiersma, about 4:24 a.m. in a GMC Sierra when the accident occurred. Police said he ran off the right side of the road, went back up on the road, then lost control and ran off the right side of the road again and hit a tree on the driver’s side. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was seatbelted, and police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Solon Township Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
