Cattle run after semi rolls

At least five cows were still on the run Wednesday afternoon, July 14, after an early morning accident on US131 near 14 Mile Road.

According to the Michigan State Police Rockford post, a semi tractor trailer hauling a 53-foot cattle trailer was traveling southbound on US131 near 14 Mile in Algoma Township about 4 a.m. when it left the roadway and rolled on to its side. The driver, a 42-year-old man from Harrison, Michigan, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Several of the cattle escaped the overturned trailer and had to be corralled by police. At least 21 of 26 cattle were accounted for. Police said the five at large would be in the 13 Mile, Algoma, Edgerton area.

That crash spawned at least one other crash as well. A short distance away, a woman and her two children were on the way to the babysitter’s house when they hit one of the runaway cows. No one in the vehicle was hurt.

If you see one of the runaway cows, contact True Grit Transportation at (989) 205-2918.
