Girl struck and killed

A 14-year-old Carson City girl died early Sunday morning after being struck from behind by a car late Saturday evening.

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff Department, Makayla Currier was walking westbound in the 8300 block of Sidney Road, near the Crystal Raceway, about 11:45 p.m. July 10, when she was struck from behind by a 1996 Dodge Stratus driven by Daniel Roger Corder II, 33. She was reportedly walking back to a bonfire from a friend’s house.

The victim was transported to Carson City Hospital and subsequently to Spectrum Butterworth, in Grand Rapids, by Aero Med, where she died Sunday morning.

Makayla would have been a freshman at Carson City-Crystal High School this fall.

She is survived by her parents, John and Serina, and brothers Jacob, Josh and Nathan, all of Carson City.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Carson City Cemetery.
