White Pine trail open

Damaged trail

The section of the White Pine Trail between Rockford and Belmont that was recently damaged by heavy rains has been repaired and is now open for use.

Repaired trail.

According to Dave Heyboer, president of Friends of the White Pine Trail, the trail reopened with the help of many volunteers, including the Kent County Road Commission, the Sheriff’s Honor Camp personnel, Sheriff’s department volunteers and the city of Rockford staff.

“Without this coordinated effort of so many people the trail would likely have been closed for many months,” noted Heyboer.
Heyboer also was grateful to trail users for their cooperation. “This was a huge inconvenience for the people that regularly use this section of the trail but they were understanding, courteous and steered clear of the section during the repair,” he said.
