Detour ahead

Construction will be starting soon on two area roads, and motorists need to be ready to find an alternate route.

Starting Monday, July 12, Northland Drive will be closed for construction from M-57 to Indian Lakes Road. The road will be closed to through traffic, but residents will be allowed to access businesses. Plans are to reconstruct and widen the road to three-lanes. Construction includes concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, ditches and HMA pavement. Through traffic will be detoured. The planned completion date is October 29, 2010.

Later this month, Fifth Street between West Muskegon and Cherry Streets in Cedar Springs will undergo milling and resurfacing. The dates are tentatively set for July 27 through July 29, depending on the weather. The last time the street was redone was in 1985, when the sanitary sewer was replaced. The funding for the project was made possible through a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of $63,000.

The city advises residents to plan an alternate route, and suggested that those within the area may want to park their vehicles on a side street during those three days of construction.
