Hometown hero

Airman First Class Shane R. Cole was selected to represent F.E. Warren AFB  for a tribute to the men of the Bataan Death March.

The March honors the World War II Veterans who endured the horrific journey of April 1942. Japanese military forces marched 75,000 American and Filipino prisoners across 60 miles, withoiut food or water, to prison death camps in the Philippines.

On Sunday, March 21, 2010, Shane and 5,000 people worldwide participated in the 21st annual Bataan Memorial Death March in White Sands Missle Range, NM.

After months of gruelling training, Shane completed the 26 mile march, up-hill, in combat boots, and with 40 pounds of weight on his back. Shane is a 2007 graduate of Cedar Springs High School. His parents Jan and Dale Dzwonek are very proud of him.
