For the 3rd straight year, Cedar Springs resident Gary Bailey and his staff have been named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Bailey’s Grace Bible College Tigers basketball team, from Wyoming, Michigan, won the Midwest Region for the third straight year. They own wins this year over Cornerstone University and Calvin College and they are the #1 seed in the NCCAA National Tournament that began March 9 in Springfield, Missouri.  The Tigers are currently 25-10 on the season and have won 36 consecutive NCCAA II games.

Assisting Bailey since he began the head coaching duties at Grace five years ago is Dan George, his former college coach and also a Cedar Springs resident, and Kyle Bohl of Wyoming, a former All-American at Grace. Kent Karnemaat of Fremont, Michigan joined the staff this year.

“It is an honor for this coaching staff to receive this award,” said Bailey. “We work very hard to put a good team on the floor and also work to make sure that this team shows good sportsmanship and character on and off the floor. Being voted for this award by the other coaches means a lot to us.”

Bailey, George, and Bohl are also all on staff at Creative Technologies Academy.
