Man dies in fiery crash

A Cedar Springs man died Mønday evening when the car he was driving hit a tree..

According to the Kent County Sheriff Department, Craig Schaner, 40, of Solon Township, was northbound on Lincoln Lake Avenue in Grattan Township on Monday evening, March 1, about 6:28 p.m., when his 2009 Chevrolet Impala left the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a tree. The car then burst into flames.

Neighbors reportedly rushed to the scene but couldn’t save the driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Schaner was reportedly a vehicle auctioneer. He is survived by two sons, Seth and Garrett Schaner, of Big Rapids.
