Fires ravage buildings in Cedar Springs

This apartment at the corner of First and Maple Streets in Cedar Springs was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

Two fires in less than 12 hours have left several families homeless in Cedar Springs. The first fire occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday, February 7 on the northeast corner of Fifth and Muskegon Streets. The husband and wife, who are expecting their first child, were not home at the time. Firefighters from Cedar Springs and Sand Lake fought the fire.

The second fire occurred about 2:54 a.m. Monday, February 8, on the southwest corner of First and Maple Streets. The home holds four apartments, but everyone got out safely. Firefighters from Cedar Springs, Solon Township, and Sand Lake fought the blaze for several hours. Both fires are still under investigation.
