Start something new with Cedar Springs Area Parks and Rec

Cedar Springs Area Parks and Rec is offering a free half hour tonight (Thursday) of classes in kickboxing, yoga, and ZUMBA so people can try out the activities.
The start of the new year is a time when many people are looking for ways to improve themselves. Cedar Springs Area Parks and Recreation are giving people a chance to try out some activities tonight (Thursday, January 7), and are glad to announce some new enrichment activities in addition to their physical fitness-related classes.
“We are bringing back our standard programs, but have added a few new ones into the mix,” said Amanda Gerhardt, Director of CSAPR. “Over the past few years we have been hearing from the community that they want to have programs other than recreation, so we have been working to put some together.”
This January they will offer jewelry making, intro to Spanish, Microsoft Office basics, and digitial photography. “We know that many members of our community go to Rockford, GRCC, or other places for these classes, but we are glad to announce that they can stay right here close to home, and experience these classes for a lower price as well,” said Gerhardt.
The classes will be held at the Cedar Springs Middle School. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged so that supplies can be purchased and to ensure manageable class sizes.
Other new programs for the session include the return of youth tumbling, on Mondays at Red Hawk Elementary, and youth volleyball for girls in the 3rd through 6th grades. The 5th and 6th graders will be playing Northview on Saturdays beginning January 30. “This is very exciting as we are partnering with Northview to start a new traveling volleyball program,” explained Gerhardt. “The basketball programs have done this in the past and now we are following suit and leading the way. Our 3rd and 4th graders will play each other at the completion of their instruction.”
Returning programs for January include kickboxing, yoga, ZUMBA, tae kwon do, men’s open basketball, coed open volleyball and open weight room. These programs all allow registration at the door and take place at the Cedar Springs Middle School.
Anyone thinking of running in the Fifth Third River Bank run this May, can join their “Springs runs the River” training group. “You can train for the 5K, 10K, or 25K. The group will begin meeting on Saturday mornings in February. Training can be hard, so join the group and have some fun during your training,” said Gerhardt.
