If there was ever any doubt, it is now certain that Speedway will not reopen their former gas station at 333 S. Main Street in Cedar Springs. Construction crews worked at the site this week, removing underground storage tanks and contaminated soil. They also removed the existing canopy.

“They had 2,000 yards of bad soil to remove,” said City Manager Christine Burns, who received the news in an email that they would be working on the property this week. She said that they would remove the soil then fill the hole.

A contractor told her the building would most likely go up for sale in the near future.

Speedway served the community for 38 years before closing at the end of June. Before that, it was a Checkers gas station.
