On Saturday, October 31, the Cedar Springs High School Marching Band headed to Rockford to compete in the West Shore Invitational hosted by Reeths-Puffer High School. The night was cold and threatened to rain. It was the perfect night to perform this year’s show, “Chasing Shadows.”
The performance went very well. They received a score of 73.70. In Michigan Competing Band Association (MCBA) competition, the two top scores the band receives get added together and then averaged. The other score was received at the Jenison Invitational on October 17. It was a 72.20. The band’s average is 72.950. This score puts the band in seventh place in the state in their flight. The top ten bands are able to go to Ford Field in Detroit for the state championships.
This is the first year that the band has competed in MCBA. It is quite an accomplishment to go to the state finals the first year. On Saturday, November 7, the band will compete at the state championships in Detroit. They will be performing at 10:55 am. The band is busy getting ready to perform one last time.
The band will be leaving very early Saturday and returning home near 6:00 p.m. Join the community on Muskegon Street to welcome them home. This has been a truly amazing year. The students, directors and music boosters have put many hours into preparing for this performance. Have a great show, band!
