Going into last Friday’s showdown against West Catholic with high hopes and a slogan of “We Believe,” the Red Hawk varsity football team was looking to finish the season with a victory. Hopes were quickly dashed as the undefeated Falcons put up 42 points in the first half. The Red Hawk running back trio of Shane Bratt, Alex Hemry, and James Putnam, that led the vaunted Red Hawk running attack this year, were held to under 40 yards in the first half, no first downs, and zero points.
With the second half starting with a running clock, Cedar did our community proud, by playing with heart, determination, and pride. The Red Hawks were able to avert a shutout with a 2 yard touchdown by Josh Zwinger, closing out the scoring in a 49-6 defeat. Cedar closed out their season 3-4 in the OK Blue and 4-5 overall.
The 2009 season foreshadowed positive things to come for the Cedar football program, including the OK Blue championship for our JV team. Thanks to the following Seniors who have helped lay the foundation for future success at Cedar Springs;  Kirk Moore, Scott Vodry, Andrew LaPree, Kenny Mitz, Zach Wittle, Jeremy Stellema, Sam Bekins, Darren Link, Warron Armock, Kyle Spencer, Josh Black, Nate Stein, Canlon Bruer, and Mitch Elenbaas.
