More bear photos

The man in Nelson Township that caught a bear on camera out near his deer blind has sent us more photos of the bear. The bear has been habiting the area near Cedar Springs Avenue and 21 Mile, and often getting into garbage. Experts recommend locking up all garbage to keep bears away. They are naturally shy of human contact, but may lose that if they begin to associate humans with food. In the photos above, the bear is shown with garbage he took from a nearby can.
Bear sightings have been rare here, but according to Adam Bump, bear specialist with the DNR, he is not surprised to hear about the recent bear sightings in the area. “There probably is a regular population there,” he noted. “We’ve heard of them even as far down as Battle Creek.”
